Position Title: Bilingual Parent Support Counselor (Spanish), Special Needs

Reporting To: Director of Parent Services

Matrix Parent Network has been dedicated to assisting families with children who have special needs since its inception in 1983. We provide vital support across numerous counties, ensuring that parents receive the necessary resources and guidance. Our services include a dedicated parent call center, family resource center, educational workshops, peer support in both English and Spanish, and assistance during IEP and school meetings. We are committed to enhancing our outreach and services for families in need.

Role Summary: The primary responsibility of this position is to mentor and empower families of children (ages birth to 26) with special needs or those at risk. This is achieved by offering information, resources, and support to foster confidence and advocacy skills. Services will be delivered through phone consultations, one-on-one meetings, virtual training sessions, and collaborative engagements with agencies and professionals. The ideal candidate will be a parent of a child with special needs. This role offers flexibility, with potential part-time to full-time hours based on community requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of parents concerning their child's development and advocacy skills.
  • Provide empathetic communication while respecting cultural and individual differences.
  • Demonstrate collaboration and problem-solving techniques for parents.
  • Offer referrals and information regarding special needs services, including Special Education and Regional Centers.
  • Conduct training sessions for parents and professionals, and facilitate support groups.
  • Engage in community outreach and inter-agency meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records and manage time-sensitive client information.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with families of children with special needs is essential.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate emotionally charged situations with professionalism.
  • Proficient in computer skills and data management.
  • Strong collaborative communication abilities.
