Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States SEIU- ESF Full time
Job Overview

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000
Location: Remote/work from home, with a preference for candidates residing in the Northeast or California. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorships are not available.

Compensation Package: This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive benefits package, including comprehensive employer-paid health care for employees and their dependents, along with a pension plan.

Organizational Background

The SEIU Education & Support Fund is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by a growing number of Americans, particularly women and people of color, who work in service sector roles characterized by low wages, lack of health care, job insecurity, and limited opportunities for training and career advancement. We focus on developing and delivering worker-centered, relationship-based, and accessible education, training, and workforce development initiatives. As a strategic partner to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), we collaborate with various unions, nonprofit organizations, government entities, and employers to empower workers and foster positive social change. Our mission promotes a culture of empowerment that values experience, culture, diversity, and inclusion.

Position Summary

In response to significant growth over the past two years, the SEIU Education and Support Fund (ESF) is seeking a Human Resources and Culture Coordinator to serve as a central figure within the People and Culture department. This individual will report to the People and Culture Director and support a dynamic multi-state team.

The primary responsibilities include coordinating compliance and documentation activities related to onboarding, offboarding, recruitment, and retention. This role is crucial in ensuring that People and Culture policies and procedures align with ESF protocols and are adhered to diligently.

This position is largely administrative, collaborative, and internally focused, serving ESF's part-time and full-time employees, as well as job seekers. It is ideal for someone committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring adherence to ESF processes.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance

  • Conduct regular internal audits of employee digital files, job descriptions, and records to ensure compliance with applicable laws and ESF's documentation retention policies.
  • Maintain the integrity of ESF's Documentation Retention and Destruction Policy across various systems.
  • Manage new hire data entry in ESF's HRIS, E-verify, and other HR databases.
  • Oversee the processing of terminations, including documentation management.
  • Research best practices for HR policies and initiatives.

Employee Engagement

  • Facilitate the onboarding and offboarding processes for new hires.
  • Address routine inquiries from internal and external clients.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure necessary supplies are provided to new hires.
  • Collaborate with the Director of People and Culture to develop and maintain standard operating procedures for onboarding and offboarding.
  • Respond to frequently asked questions from employees regarding policies, benefits, and hiring processes.
  • Create materials to enhance employee understanding of personnel policies and benefits.
  • Assist in organizing special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, and employee recognition activities.
  • Participate in cross-functional activities as part of the People and Culture team.
  • Attend relevant seminars and conferences to stay connected within the HR community and share insights with the team.

Recruitment

  • Engage a diverse range of candidates through proactive sourcing and partnerships with community organizations.
  • Manage ESF's online presence on platforms like LinkedIn and the Careers page to attract potential employees.
  • Build and maintain relationships with diverse professional organizations and educational institutions to expand talent sourcing.
  • Oversee the full-cycle recruitment process, from job postings to candidate interviews.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to ensure equitable hiring practices are followed.
  • Implement best practices from the ESF Hiring Handbook in all recruitment efforts.
  • Continuously improve hiring processes based on feedback from stakeholders.
  • Integrate equity and belonging into the recruitment strategy.
  • Stay informed about new recruitment strategies and share insights with the team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Incorporate an equity lens into all aspects of the role.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by the People and Culture team.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental goals and objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong judgment, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to manage relationships effectively.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and transparent planning.
  • Experience in recruitment with a focus on diversity and inclusion.
  • Proficient in employer brand management and drafting job postings.
  • Commitment to embodying ESF's values and fostering a worker-centered culture.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Willingness to travel locally and nationally when necessary.
  • Proficient in technology tools, including ATS, HRIS, Google Workspace, and project management software.

Experience and Qualifications

We value diverse experiences and are interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Three to five years of progressive experience in Human Resources, particularly in recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Comfort in all aspects of HR and the ability to build connections in a growing organization.
  • A commitment to professional and personal development.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and effective time management in a remote work setting.
  • A dedication to fostering an atmosphere of belonging, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Experience with Google Workspace in a professional context.

Preferred Experience

  • Progress towards or possession of an HR certification, such as SHRM-CP or PHR.
  • Experience working in a fully virtual HR environment for over three years.
  • Experience in organizations with employees across multiple states.
  • Residence in the Northeast or California.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, including written, reading, and speaking skills.

We recognize that qualified candidates from historically marginalized groups may self-select out of applying if they do not meet all qualifications. We encourage strong candidates to apply, even if they do not meet every requirement.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits, including fully employer-paid medical, dental, and vision plans; a defined benefit pension plan; 16 paid holidays, sick leave, and personal days; and up to five weeks of vacation after two years of service. Our organization supports a hybrid work model, providing an annual home office stipend and a cell phone/internet stipend for all employees.

Commitment to Equal Opportunity

SEIU Education and Support Fund is committed to equal opportunity in all employment aspects, adhering to federal, state, and local employment laws. We aim to reflect the communities we serve and enhance employment opportunities for individuals from historically marginalized groups. We actively encourage applications from people of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, bilingual and bicultural candidates, and people with disabilities.
