Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Press Brake Operator plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by interpreting part specifications and efficiently setting up and operating various brake press machines. This position requires entering precise bend dimensions and deductions tailored to different sheet metal gauges. A successful candidate will possess strong mathematical abilities, particularly in converting measurements, and will have the capacity to visualize three-dimensional components prior to executing bends, akin to conceptualizing a paper airplane before folding it. Previous experience with press brake operations is advantageous, and overtime may be necessary during peak production periods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This is a safety-sensitive role.
  • Setup and operate machinery including brakes, rolls, shears, saws, and presses.
  • Interpret blueprints, part drawings, and engineering specifications accurately.
  • Conduct mathematical calculations as required.
  • Learn to operate the brake press controller and modify bend programs as necessary.
  • Handle metal components weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments on machines, notifying supervisors for major issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Complete additional tasks as directed by the Shop Supervisor.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned to fulfill business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with machinery and tools, including their design, application, and upkeep.
  • Strong time management abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational capabilities.
  • Basic proficiency in mathematics.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and suppliers.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Training in lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Hands-on experience in both metal and wood manufacturing environments.
  • At least one year of experience operating machinery or press brakes.

  • While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly. Regular activities include reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; pushing and pulling similar weights; walking and standing for extended periods; and manipulating various objects.
