Description
Position Overview:
This position joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.
Essential Job Functions:
- Safety Sensitive position.
- Stainless Steel TIG welding.
- Weld metal parts on a production line using welding gun or gas or arc welding equipment.
- Connect hoses and turn valves to release fuel gas and oxygen to ignite mixture.
- Insert weld rod into portable holder.
- Guide torch along weld line to bend, melt, or build up metal.
- Fuse parts together, seal tension points, and add metal to build up parts.
- Correct malformation in parts and hammer out bulges or bends.
- Read blueprints and engineers specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness in assigned area.
- Maintain all safety standards.
- Support other departments as necessary.
- Perform additional assignments in accordance with the Shop Supervisor's direction.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Thorough ability in welding various materials.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Good organizational skills.
- Proficient basic math skills.
- Ability to work in a demanding, multi-task environment.
- Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and vendors.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience
- Post Secondary Certificate awarded for training completed after high school, preferred (examples: welding program, construction trades, etc.)
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee will have prolonged periods of walking and standing. The employee may be required to lift/carry objects of up to 45 pounds and to push and pull objects of up to 50 pounds. The employee will be frequently stooping, kneeling, or couching and grasping and manipulate objects. The employee is also required to have better than average dexterity to use hands to, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The working conditions are on the manufacturing plant floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
