Veterinarian in Animal Health Protection

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced State Veterinarian to join our team at the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. As the chief veterinarian in the state, you will play a critical role in protecting animal health and human public health.
The successful candidate will oversee and direct several dynamic poultry, livestock, and animal disease management programs, emphasizing agricultural sector impact. This involves supervision of dedicated program field staff, developing disease management programs, providing technical advice to other programs, effective public outreach, conducting investigations of incidents of reportable diseases, and working with other states and federal stakeholders to plan for and respond to issues impacting animal health.
You will have the opportunity to work on a hybrid schedule, balancing office and remote work to achieve a great work-life balance.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should have a degree in Veterinary Medicine, a current license to practice veterinary medicine in the US, and at least 3 years of professional veterinary experience focusing on large, mixed or food animal practice.
A strong knowledge of veterinary medicine and surgery, current diagnostics and treatment techniques, proper animal husbandry procedures, avian and livestock diseases, and their treatment and control methods is essential.
You should also possess supervisory and project management experience, including field-based response activities to disease outbreaks or other emergent issues of concern.
In addition, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to develop partnerships and work effectively with a diverse community of stakeholders are required.
