Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Recreation Aide II to join our team at the City of Gainesville. As a Recreation Aide II, you will assist in the development, implementation, and coordination of recreational programs and activities within an assigned City recreational facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of recreational activities, including special events, sports leagues, instructional programs, and special population programs.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Recreation Aide I staff.
  • Assist in the development of new programs and classes.
  • Answer public inquiries about programs and receive and record complaints.
  • Assist in the collection of surveys related to program evaluation and make recommendations for modifications and improvements.
  • Perform site program criteria evaluations and provide feedback to assigned staff.
  • Open and close park and recreation facilities and buildings according to schedule.
  • Maintain registration, participation, inventory, and expenditure records for recreation programs.
  • Provide monthly reports of these records.
  • Oversee facility and program safety and risk management.
  • Report needed maintenance and repairs to supervisor.
  • Assist in marketing recreational programs, including meeting with community groups and implementing new concepts.
  • Enforce published schedules and coordinate assigned staff.
  • Maintain facility, equipment, and supply inventory.
  • Keep all equipment and supplies in good working condition.
  • Care for livestock and other live animals, including invertebrates, fish, reptiles, and amphibians.
  • Assist with selection, promotion, discharge, and recommends other appropriate personnel actions.
  • Assist with pre-employment testing and training of staff.
  • Assist with swimming lessons by providing support and supervision both in and out of the water.
  • Transport participants and/or staff, depending on assignment and work location.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in recreational programming, instruction, or related work.
  • American Red Cross certification in First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within six months of appointment.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification upon appointment.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard (LG) Instructor certification upon appointment.
  • National Alliance for Youth Sports certification as a Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) within one year of appointment.
Working Conditions

Work requires performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions. Must be able to work a varying schedule outside normal business hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
