Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer/Physical Scientist to join our team at the Bureau of Reclamation. As a key member of our hydrology and water resources team, you will be responsible for leading and conducting complex hydrology and water resources studies and investigations, providing expert technical guidance and mentoring, and developing and evaluating new technical methods and tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct large, complex, and/or controversial hydrology and water resources studies and investigations, including hydrologic and climate data analysis, flood hydrology or meteorology, hydrologic and/or water quality modeling, and/or river and reservoir systems modeling.
  • Provide expert technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to team members, and review complex and/or controversial hydrology and water resources analyses and studies for technical adequacy, computational correctness, and interpretational adequacy.
  • Develop and evaluate new technical methods and tools for application in hydrology and water resources analyses, including addressing unique or novel problems, conditions, or issues.
  • Prepare high-quality written documents and work products, including technical memoranda and reports, summaries, briefings, and other written communications, and lead or contribute to technical guidelines, journals, or professional papers.
  • Present and disseminate technical information through oral presentations and written documents, including presentations and briefings to leadership, and teach others through formal or informal mentoring or training.
Requirements
  • Must possess a degree in engineering, physical science, or mathematics, or a combination of education and experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
  • Must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and complexity to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, including leading and conducting large, complex, and/or controversial hydrology and water resources studies or investigations, and presenting and disseminating technical information through oral presentations and written documents.
Working Conditions

This is an interdisciplinary position that requires a fully completed and favorably adjudicated SF85 Background Investigation (T1 or equivalent) that is current (within the last 5 years). The position may be filled by a Civil Engineer (GS) or a Physical Scientist (GS). The Bureau of Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and you may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval.
