Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for performing geotechnical analyses for earth and rockfill dam designs, developing geotechnical recommendations, and preparing specifications paragraphs and drawings to address the geotechnical aspects of assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform geotechnical analyses for earth and rockfill dam designs
  • Develop geotechnical recommendations in support of general civil engineering, building foundations, underground structures, and open channel hydraulic conveyance feature projects
  • Prepare specifications paragraphs and drawings to address the geotechnical aspects of assigned projects
  • Participate in the development and oversight of field exploration programs and geotechnical laboratory investigations
  • Assemble and document key technical information for and/or participate in risk analyses for static, seismic, and hydrologic potential failure modes for embankment dams
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
  • Must submit a resume and supporting documentation
  • Must meet any minimum education and/or experience requirements
  • Must submit transcript(s) to verify education requirements
  • Must submit a current valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet both the Basic Qualification Requirement and the Additional Requirement. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. A copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.

The Basic Qualification Requirement is a degree in engineering or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that furnishes a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

The Additional Requirement is one full year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the GS-11 level performing geotechnical engineering analysis and geotechnical design on embankment dams or embankments.

Education

This position has a mandatory education requirement. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred.
