Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Respiratory Care Practitioner I to join our team at Stanford Health Care. As a key member of our Respiratory Therapy Team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients with a variety of respiratory conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer aerosolized medications via handheld nebulizers, metered dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers, large volume continuous nebulizers, and intrapulmonary percussive ventilation.
  • Administer medical gases via nasal cannulas, oxygen masks, high flow nasal cannulas, and large volume nebulizers.
  • Perform routine tracheostomy care and weaning.
  • Assemble and assure safety and proper functioning of all equipment and supplies necessary for providing respiratory care.
  • Document results, findings, and assessments in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Perform airway clearance using chest physiotherapy, vibratory positive expiratory pressure devices, cough assist device, or nontracheal suctioning.
  • Assess pulmonary mechanics using portable spirometry devices.
  • Respond to cardiopulmonary arrests and rapid response calls.
  • Respond to calls and provide therapy to patients requiring emergency care for non-traumatic conditions.
  • Educate patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team about routine respiratory procedures, medications, modalities, and disease processes.
  • Provide continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or biphasic positive airway pressure (BiPAP) for patients who use such devices at home.
  • Provide invasive ventilation for medically stable patients who use such devices at home.
  • Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Oversee and train staff and community college students working on general medical floors.
Requirements
  • Completion of a 2-year American Medical Association (AMA) approved Respiratory Care Program or currently enrolled in an AMA RCP.
  • No previous respiratory care experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver.
  • Ability to think critically, conduct analysis, formulate conclusions, and reflect on practice.
  • Ability to process equipment and utilize personal protective equipment to reduce risk of infection.
  • Understanding of commonly used medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of new technologies, changes in practice, or updates relating to respiratory care.
  • Knowledge of the principles of health, hospital, and clinic organization and administration.
  • Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, and hazards of respiratory therapies, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology related to the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Ability to provide superior customer service along with quality respiratory care to positively impact patient experience and outcomes.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in CA required.
Work Environment

This is an onsite Stanford Health Care job. The relief work schedule is determined based on scheduled dates, census, and staff coverage needs.
