Job Summary

This role is responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures in the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice. The successful candidate will work in accordance with physician orders, serving neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct spirometry tests, including pre and post-bronchodilator and sitting/standing/supine measurements
  • Administer aerosolized medication via Pentamidine Aerosol and Metered Dose Inhaler (with Spacer)
  • Perform positive airway pressure mask fitting and acclimation (CPAP and bi-level)
  • Assist with preparation of Methacholine solutions for Methacholine Challenge procedures
  • Maintain and calibrate PFT/Spirometry equipment
  • Assist with orientation and training of respiratory therapy students
  • Evaluate appropriateness of medical orders
  • Provide education for patients/families and other members of the healthcare team
  • Interpret data and respond to optimize clinical objectives for patients
  • Respond to emergencies in service areas
Requirements
  • Completion of a COARC-approved respiratory care program
  • BLS - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • RCP - Respiratory Therapy License from the State of California
  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of new technologies and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge by performing routine and complex procedures utilizing instrumentation and manual methods
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities necessary to perform multiple diagnostic tasks
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities encompassed within the position
