Role Responsibilities
This position is crucial in providing 24/7 crisis support to individuals and families, especially those at heightened risk of entering the Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare systems. The role involves responding to crises at various community locations, including police stations and hospitals. Our team members excel in flexible schedules, primarily working evening and overnight shifts. Typical scheduling includes:
- Weekdays: 5 PM to 9 AM
- Weekends: Friday at 5 PM to Monday at 9 AM
On-call Crisis Workers play a vital role in addressing immediate needs of youth in crisis, facilitating family mediation, and ensuring safe relocation for affected individuals. After initial intervention, youth are connected with Youth Advocates for ongoing support, helping to mitigate potential system involvement.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Availability for 16-hour on-call shifts during scheduled weekends.
- Providing evening and weekend coverage as directed by the Supervisor, including holiday shifts as needed.
- Responding promptly to calls from the Alternatives answering service, ensuring compliance with a 45-minute response time to designated sites.
- Conducting thorough assessments of youth and family crises, determining the need for psychiatric evaluation and crisis stabilization.
- Collaborating effectively with law enforcement, DCFS, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive service delivery and advocate for client rights.
- Completing all necessary documentation, including lockout reports, in a timely and professional manner.
- Consulting with fellow crisis workers and supervisory staff as necessary.
- Adhering to Trauma-informed and Restorative Justice principles in all interactions.
- Participating in regular supervisory meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Communicating Alternatives' mission and services effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- Completing additional tasks as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field, with knowledge of adolescent and family dynamics.
- Demonstrated cultural competency in working with system-involved, homeless, LGBTQ, Black, Latinx, and Indigenous youth.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and insurance, with access to a vehicle during work hours.
- Residency within a 45-minute radius of the designated service area.
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements as mandated by applicable law.
