Job Title: Department Manager

Job Summary:

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a highly motivated and sales-driven individual to fill the role of Department Manager. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assessing current programs and identifying opportunities to increase sales. You will build strong relationships with clients, peers, and the store team to drive sales and store traffic through outreach and sales calls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive sales and store traffic through outreach to prospective institutional, corporate, and local community groups and organizations.
  • Conduct strategic and effective sales presentations with representatives of local schools, nonprofit agencies, and literary organizations.
  • Research the local community and identify business opportunities, create and implement programs to expand sales potential.
  • Plan, promote, and oversee the execution of store events in partnership with store management.
  • Maintain the calendar of events and manage and promote social media.
  • Marketing of all promotions via social media and university pathways.
  • Key holder that will support bookstore operations.
  • Maintain a presence on the sales floor and a working knowledge of all departments to greet customers, answer questions, recommend products and/or services, help locate or obtain materials, and provide daily support, direction, and guidance to booksellers.
  • Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer or experience in commercial sales or public relations is required.
  • Graduate of the Barnes & Noble College Bestseller program is a plus.
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields- sales (preferably outbound sales in retail), education, marketing, fundraising and development, or public relations.
  • Outstanding computer skills including proficiency with the internet, social media, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
