Data Scientist & Implementation Specialist Job Description

Cherokee Federal is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist & Implementation Specialist to support the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division (AFHSD) Global Emerging Infections Surveillance (GEIS) Branch efforts to coordinate infectious disease surveillance data collection, management, analysis, and visualization activities within the Department of Defense (DoD).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to collect requirements and integrate data analysis results into business processes and decision-making.
  • Design and implement data visualizations and Tableau dashboards to communicate findings and insights digestibly to largely military/DoD stakeholders.
  • Apply data science principles and techniques to analyze data from various sources and topic areas.
  • Replace data source connections in existing Tableau workbooks with the appropriate data warehouses in AWS Redshift.
  • Automate data download pipelines from DHIS2 for aggregation and downstream analyses.
  • Implement DHIS2 instances for clients, creating project plans and educating clients on system features.
  • Provide technical support on DHIS2 software management, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in coordinating responses to requests for information (RFIs) and providing relevant data to GEIS staff for analysis.
  • Communicate with GEIS partner organizations to understand their data collection, management, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Support the development of routine surveillance reports, publications, presentations, and information products based on GEIS-funded surveillance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Health Science, or relevant field, and at least 2 years of practical experience in data science/analysis.
  • Proficiency in R, SQL, and Tableau.
  • Experience developing Tableau dashboards and working with AWS Redshift.
  • Strong data science, management, and analysis skills, with experience working with U.S. government agencies.
  • Active Secret clearance; applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and may be required to obtain a Secret clearance.
