Part-Time Teacher for Visually Impaired Students

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Part-Time Teacher for Visually Impaired to join our team at EdLogical Group. As a Part-Time Teacher for Visually Impaired, you will be responsible for providing exceptional educational services to visually impaired students. Responsibilities:
- Evaluate pupils using criterion and/or norm referenced tests to determine their visual functioning levels, competencies, and needs.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student.
- Provide direct instruction in special skills, including braille reading and writing, orientation and mobility, listening skills, tactile skills, visual efficiency, concept development, and the use of large print and optical aids.
- Assist in determining eligibility and regular education placement when appropriate.
- Teach students skills in explaining their disability and make referrals to other programs and services as needed.
- Provide consultation, resources, and assistance to regular classroom teachers and develop and implement curriculum activities that correlate to the students' objectives.
- Monitor student learning and adjust teaching strategies and activities accordingly.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university.
- California Teaching Credential authorizing the performance of services with programs for the visually impaired.
- Possess specialized techniques and skills pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in the use of various technological devices and optical aids.
- Background and/or certification in orientation and mobility.
- Knowledge of technology for Braille, large print, and talking software.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- First Aid and CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working with children with visual impairments age birth through 21 years of age.
- Experience working with children with severe disabilities.
- Teaching experience in general education programs, elementary or secondary.
- Ability to use Sign Language.
- Bilingual.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Occasional exposure to dust, pollen, and fumes.
- Requires frequent reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, running, carrying, and lifting 50 or more lbs.
- Must be able to see and hear within normal range with or without correction.
- The noise intensity level is moderate to high.
