About the Role

St. Matthew's House Inc is seeking a skilled Development Officer to join our team. As an expression of God's love in Southwest Florida, we are growing to ensure that no one experiencing hunger, homelessness or addiction is alone or without a pathway for their journey from crisis to contributor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects in accordance with performance targets set in collaboration with the Development Leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and cultivate donors and prospects through visits and other forms of direct personal contact.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with the development team members, and appropriate board members and/or other internal and external constituents.
  • Assist and/or lead in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate day-to-day unit-based development strategies and activities to ensure their integration into the Organization's overall development program.
  • Make effective use of the Organization's prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers.
  • Conduct research to identify prospects and create strategies to match prospects' interests to the priorities of the Organization.
  • Research, write, edit, and/or oversee the preparation of persuasive, accurate, and grammatically and syntactically correct solicitations, proposals, case statements, reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication materials.
  • Plan and conduct programs and activities designed to increase the visibility of St. Matthew's House to internal and external constituencies.
  • May train and supervise volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  • For each managed prospect, follow established procedures for tracking and qualifying prospects and for recording and reporting gifts.
  • Develop innovative recognition opportunities for continuity and donor stewardship. Direct the publicity of gifts and coordinate special donor cultivation events.
  • Work directly with the capital campaign staff and volunteers regarding all campaign specific activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and at least five years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in securing grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with leadership, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles.
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
