Job Title: Project Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing construction engineering activities and ensuring the efficient and effective execution of projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review daily inspector reports for accuracy and oversee the inspectors' work.
  • Review claims and prepare change orders.
  • Resolve construction-related conflicts in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary additional costs.
  • Prepare red lines and as-built drawings for each street on assigned contracts.
  • Perform regular site visits to confirm contractor compliance with Commission Standards.
  • Respond to and resolve all customer complaints.
  • Review monthly estimates for each contract.
  • Conduct punch list inspections of all work installed by contractors to ensure conformity to Commission specifications.
  • Schedule and conduct pre-construction meetings with contractors and impacted outside agencies to discuss the nature and scope of work.
  • Re-design water, sewer, and/or drain systems as needed due to conflicts encountered during construction.
  • Notify abutting customers of upcoming work in their area through mailings and community meetings.
  • Review and approve shop drawings for each contract to ensure compliance with Commission Standards.
  • Review work of department Co-Ops.
  • Correspond with other public and private utilities for permission and coordination.
  • Compile plans and documents for assigned construction contracts.
  • Correspond with other local and State Agencies for permits and approvals.
  • Seek additional funding from the Commissioners for contract over-runs and change orders.
  • Monitor construction progress through Construction Status Reports.
  • Conduct community meetings to discuss impacts of upcoming Commission work.
  • Prepare close-out documentation, including contractor performance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Four (4) years of experience with municipal infrastructure projects or construction sites, and experience with construction infrastructure of water, sewer, and drains systems.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate required.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License required.
  • Water Operator License recommended.
Working Conditions:

The employee will work in a general office environment with occasional field work outdoors, exposed to variable weather conditions and hazards associated with heavy equipment and construction sites.

The workload is subject to seasonal and weather-related fluctuations, and the employee may be required to respond to emergencies.

The employee will have access to department-related confidential and/or sensitive information.
