Position Overview:
The Coordinator of Special Education Programs is essential in supporting the operational effectiveness of our educational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with school leadership to foster relationships and facilitate student integration into mainstream education.
- Design and implement efficient systems tailored to program requirements.
- Participate in all necessary planning meetings and ensure compliance with established recommendations.
- Address parent inquiries and cultivate positive relationships between home and school.
- Assist educators in addressing classroom needs.
- Work with district officials to investigate and apply disciplinary measures in line with policy.
- Initiate and coordinate ongoing program-wide activities.
- Manage student behavior with respect and promptness, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
- Oversee scheduling and communicate any changes to staff.
- Support the transition of new students into the program, including participation in planning meetings.
- Coordinate assessments and ensure access to appropriate curricular materials for students.
- Provide training and support for staff regarding instructional methods and assessment tools.
- Oversee safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Manage transportation logistics and liaise with service providers to resolve issues.
- Procure necessary supplies for staff efficiently.
- Ensure timely distribution of progress reports to parents.
- Foster a positive work environment to enhance team morale and productivity.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Establish and maintain constructive relationships with all stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Connecticut Educator certification in administration/supervision and Special Education, School Psychology, or School Counseling.
- Master's Degree in a relevant field.
- Preferred familiarity with Direct Instruction, Precision Teaching, and basic applied behavior analysis concepts.
- Knowledge of instructional curricula.
- Strong organizational skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Previous experience in a supervisory role.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Successful completion of background checks.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Working Environment:
As the Coordinator of Special Education Programs, you will primarily work within an educational setting, engaging with students and staff. The role may involve managing challenging behaviors, requiring patience, empathy, and effective behavior management techniques. Physical demands may include bending, lifting, and implementing physical management techniques as necessary. Occasional travel may be required.
