The Impact You'll Make in this Role


As a Tax Strategy Lead, you will work closely with the Tax Strategy and Tax Planning leaders to support tax planning of the company, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.


Here, you will make an impact by:


Acting as the primary tax liaison for your designated business group(s) to identify and assist in mitigating tax risks and opportunities associated with evolving business and market strategies.

Demonstrating a strong ability and desire to network across functions within 3M.


Being a team player with the ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment, showcasing strong influencing and communication skills.

Possessing experience in international tax, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and/or tax planning with an ability to model scenarios.

Having a solid understanding of income tax concepts, including M&A and foreign issues impacting US taxpayers.

Working independently on tax research projects and documenting findings under the guidance of senior tax team members.


Collaborating closely with the broader Tax organization (planning, provision, indirect, US tax and local tax) to ensure cohesive planning, strategic business advice, thoughtful and thorough M&A and integration that aligns with compliance and transfer pricing functions.


Leading and supporting projects that may include: M&A; structuring and integration activities; analyzing emerging tax laws, legislation and rulings as they apply to 3M and its business groups and quantifying their impact to the company; support related to evolving tax laws such as GILTI, FDII and other complex tax compliance items; and participating on a cross-functional team focused on legal entity optimization.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher with a major in accounting, finance, economics or tax (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution


Minimum five (5) years of US income tax experience from an accounting firm practice, law firm, industry practice, national tax practice or a combination thereof in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
M&A due diligence and structuring experience

You should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a willingness to adapt to changing business environments.


The ideal candidate will be a highly reliable self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the flexibility and ability to work on time-sensitive issues under strict deadlines.

Exhibited sense of urgency to drive effective change.


Strong knowledge and experience in use of tools such as MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint and MS-Teams to create and share analytics which facilitate decision-making.
