Ophthalmic Technician

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Advocate Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and preparing exam rooms, preparing patients for exams, and assisting physicians with diagnostic tests and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and prepare exam rooms, including cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies.
- Prepare patients for exams and assist physicians with diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Perform basic diagnostic tests and visual screenings, such as visual field/acuity, tonometry/glaucoma pressures/applanations, and topography.
- Assist patients with ordering and dispensing glasses and contact lenses.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment, and sterilize instruments using appropriate techniques and procedures.
- Assist with scheduling patients for post-operative, surgery, and specialist appointments.
- May assist the ophthalmologist with basic or routine surgical procedures and post-operative care or treatment.
Requirements:
- High School Graduate.
- Typically requires 2 years of experience in a optometric assistant, ophthalmic assistant, or ophthalmic technician role.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, electronic mail, and electronic medical records systems.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch.
