Employee Benefits Client Services Specialist

Eden Prairie, Minnesota, United States Christensen Group Inc Full time
Job Overview

About Christensen Group Inc.

Established in 1952 and entirely employee-owned, Christensen Group Inc. stands as the largest independent insurance and employee benefits agency in Minnesota. We prioritize our employees as individuals, fostering a culture of care for our clients, carrier partners, and each other, both professionally and personally. Our commitment lies in understanding the businesses we support and delivering solutions that promote their growth. Employees are encouraged to engage in continuous learning and development through practical experiences to enhance client service.

Role of an Employee Benefits Client Services Specialist

In the capacity of an Employee Benefits Client Services Specialist, you will oversee the coordination of services for employee benefit clients. This position demands a collaborative team spirit and support for employee benefit consultants across all service domains. The primary focus will be on marketing new and renewal business while contributing to the agency's revenue objectives.

Flexible Work Arrangement

Christensen Group Inc. offers a hybrid work schedule post-training, allowing employees to balance office and remote work effectively. This approach helps maintain our cultural values and promotes ongoing learning from colleagues.

Training and Development

We are dedicated to fostering a safe and open learning environment for all team members. Employees are encouraged to pursue insurance designations to enhance their knowledge and embrace new growth opportunities.

Joining the Employee Benefits team at Christensen Group Inc. provides the opportunity to contribute to key strategies that engage clients' teams. Employee benefit plans play a crucial role in our clients' recruitment and retention efforts. Crafting competitive and appealing benefit plans will evolve alongside the labor market, making this role dynamic to meet our clients' needs.

Our Employee Benefits team serves clients ranging from small groups to those with over 2000 members. Being a strategic partner to our clients' leadership teams regarding their benefit plans necessitates knowledge of fully insured and self-insured medical plans, ACA compliance, dental, vision, and other ancillary benefits to create attractive offerings for employees.

Newcomers to the insurance field typically start in the Small Group Client Services Specialist role, where they learn about various benefit offerings and strategies for employers with large group and ancillary benefits. Progression to a Large Group role, focusing on more complex benefit packages, or becoming a best practice expert within the Benefits team is possible.

Why Choose Christensen Group Inc.?

As an employee-owned organization, a significant portion of our compensation package includes the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), aligning our interests as a team. The ESOP serves as a retirement asset, akin to a 401(k) Plan, but its growth is tied to our collective contributions rather than the stock market.

All eligible employees participate in an allocation of ESOP shares, targeted at 15% of W-2 pay. In simple terms, Christensen Group contributes shares equal to a dollar value into your ESOP retirement account annually, significantly exceeding the typical employer 401(k) match.

We provide a comprehensive employee benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, short-term/long-term disability, Life/AD&D insurance, Voluntary Life/AD&D insurance, 401(k), identity shield, and pet insurance.

Recognizing that most individuals spend a substantial part of their adult lives at work, we have incorporated wellness facilities in our office design, including a Golf Simulator, an onsite gym, a racquetball court, and walking treadmill desks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a solid understanding of agency carriers, marketing, and underwriting to effectively coordinate with insurance companies to resolve client issues.
  • Maintain professionalism in daily interactions, including appearance and leadership.
  • Support agency initiatives in managing relationships with carriers.
  • Participate in renewal and open enrollment meetings as required.
  • Address customer needs through daily service and engagement in monthly client calls.
  • Assist clients with compliance schedules.
  • Support billing, claims, and eligibility inquiries.
  • Facilitate changes in benefit plans and onboarding of new members.
  • Collaborate with the service team, including the Producer and Benefit Consultant, to meet client requirements.

Qualifications

  • Preferred 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of group medical, dental, disability, life, voluntary products, COBRA, ERISA, FSA, HSA, and HRA plans.
  • Understanding of fully insured and self-insured products.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly strong math and Excel skills.
  • Detail-oriented with effective problem-solving abilities and minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management and self-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proactive in identifying and addressing departmental needs.
  • Capability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to learn and understand various issues related to human resources and benefits.
  • Resident Life and Health license.
