We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the City of La Mesa, CA. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws, preventing crimes, and providing excellent service to our community.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol designated areas to preserve law and order, discover and prevent crimes, and enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances.
- Respond to calls for service, including emergency situations, and provide assistance to the public.
- Conduct investigations at crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence, and interview witnesses and suspects.
- Prepare and serve search and arrest warrants, and apprehend and arrest offenders.
- Direct traffic at emergency situations, and provide crowd control at events.
- Serve as a liaison and public relations officer for the assigned area, and establish and preserve good relationships with the public.
- Participate in continuous training to enhance law enforcement skills, including defensive driving, apprehension and arrest techniques, and investigative skills.
- Must be at least 20-1/2 years of age at time of application.
- Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
- Requires high school graduation, passage of the General Education Development Test (GED), or attainment of a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
- Police Officer - Lateral Transfer: Any experience as a sworn peace officer in the State of California, or equivalent. Possession of a California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate, California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Certificate, or a California P.O.S.T. Basic Course Waiver Certificate.
- Police Officer - Academy Graduate: Graduation from a California P.O.S.T. approved police academy. Possession of a California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Certificate.
Work is performed in a variety of settings, including patrol cars, police stations, and outdoor environments. May be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
