Public Safety Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Public Safety Officer to join our team at the City of La Mirada, CA. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for providing information and assistance to the public regarding City regulations and various law enforcement matters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide excellent customer service skills and interpret City ordinances, policies, and procedures to the public.
- Observe and report Municipal Code violations and hazardous conditions.
- Perform administrative support functions and adhere to City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide a safe environment and interact with youth at local park sites.
- Respond to public inquiries and requests for service.
- Assist in preparing gang and drug prevention curriculum and program materials for students in local schools.
- Monitor City facilities during public and private events and enforce rules and regulations.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and able to prove eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must pass a written examination, background investigation, DMV check, and fingerprinting for the disclosure of any criminal record.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination including a drug-screen test.
- Must have knowledge of community oriented policing services, public relations and customer service practices, complaint resolution techniques, and general law enforcement functions.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Experience working with a law enforcement agency or in a position with public contact.
- Training as an Explorer or work experience in law enforcement related positions, military, working with youth, or a position with public contact.
- College coursework in Criminal Justice or any P.O.S.T.-certified basic law enforcement training.
