Job Summary

As a Telephone Operator at Hardin Medical Center, you will provide exceptional customer service to the public and internal customers by answering and routing calls promptly, interrupting busy lines if necessary, and keeping records of calls placed and received. You will also provide information by accessing alphabetical and geographical directories, assist customers with special billing requests, and offer special assistance to persons who are unable to dial or who are in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer and route calls promptly, interrupting busy lines if necessary
  • Provide information by accessing alphabetical and geographical directories
  • Assist customers with special billing requests, such as charges to a third party and credits or refunds for incorrectly dialed numbers or bad connections
  • Offer special assistance to persons who are unable to dial or who are in emergency situations
  • Monitor automated systems for placing collect calls and intervene for callers needing assistance
  • Operate telephone switchboards and systems to advance and complete connections, including those for local, long distance, and pay telephone, mobile, person-to-person, and emergency calls
  • Provide relay service for hearing-impaired users
  • Set up conference calls in different locations and time zones
  • Check mailbox daily, receive, sort, and promptly distribute mail
  • Operate copier and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Answer patient questions in person and by telephone regarding billing statements, hospital directions, and census
  • Balance daily deposit, cash drawer, credit card transactions, and posting report daily
  • Take phone calls and answer any questions from departments or vendors in regards to invoice payments
Requirements

This role requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and previous work experience in a hospital customer service role. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle emergency or crisis situations.

Physical Demands

This role operates in a professional office environment and requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. The employee must be able to see with corrective eye wear and hear clearly with assistance.
