Special Education Paraeducator

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Paraeducator to join our team at Spokane Public Schools. As a Paraeducator, you will work closely with special education teachers and students to provide support and instruction in core academic areas.
Responsibilities- Provide instruction and support to students with disabilities in core academic areas.
- Assist special education teachers in implementing student Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioral and social skills programs.
- Participate as a contributing member of a collaborative team to support student learning and achievement.
- Assist students with physical and mobility needs, personal care, and pre-vocational and transition activities.
- Manage student equipment and assistive technology as needed.
- Supervise and promote safety of students in multiple settings.
- Administer, monitor, and document medication following district policy and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, or pass an academically rigorous assessment.
- Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors.
- Willing and physically capable of kneeling, bending, and working or sitting on the floor with students.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and use assistive devices as needed.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in communication skills.
This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with students who have a range of disabilities. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a positive, professional, and confidential manner.
