Role Responsibilities:

The Captain oversees the efficient and quality preparation of meals, ensuring compliance with all food safety standards for patients and visitors. This individual manages the galley operations during their shift, performing all tasks with sensitivity to the diverse cultural, age, and developmental needs of the patient populations served. They work closely with leadership to enhance the quality of food and nutrition services provided to patients.

Key Duties:

  • Timely and accurate assembly of meal trays according to prescribed dietary requirements.
  • Preparation of food items following recipes and oven loading protocols.
  • Adherence to standard procedures for meal preparation and service.
  • Processing of diet orders and menus; generating necessary reports from nutrition software.
  • Management of food inventory and requisitions with clarity and precision.
  • Compliance with storage guidelines for food and supplies.
  • Operation, sanitation, and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Implementation of proper cleaning and dishwashing techniques.
  • Acceptance of assigned responsibilities in a collaborative manner.
  • Adherence to policies and adaptability to changes within the unit as needed.
  • Supervision of Steward/ess staff.
  • Execution of additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of a certified program in food service or relevant training preferred.
  • Preferred experience of at least one year in food service or a related field.
  • Ability to accurately follow oral, pictorial, and written instructions in English.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including a solid understanding of Windows and departmental software.
  • Capability to prepare and present food in an appealing manner.
  • Proficiency in resolving issues swiftly and utilizing the chain of command as necessary.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and positions as required by the unit/department.
