Role Responsibilities:

The Captain oversees the efficient and high-quality preparation of meals, ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations for patients and visitors. This role involves managing the galley operations during shifts, with a focus on cultural, developmental, and environmental safety considerations for the diverse patient populations we serve. The Captain works closely with leadership to enhance the quality of food and nutrition services provided to patients.

Key Duties:

  • Efficiently assembles meal trays in accordance with prescribed dietary requirements.
  • Prepares food items accurately, following recipes and oven loading protocols.
  • Implements standard procedures for meal preparation and service.
  • Processes diet orders and menus accurately; generates necessary reports from nutrition software.
  • Maintains accurate food inventory and requisitions.
  • Adheres to guidelines for proper storage of food and supplies.
  • Operates, sanitizes, and maintains kitchen equipment effectively.
  • Ensures proper cleaning and dishwashing procedures are followed.
  • Accepts assigned responsibilities with a collaborative attitude.
  • Follows policies and adapts to changes within the unit as necessary.
  • Supervises Steward/ess staff.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of a certified program in food service or similar training is preferred.
  • One year of experience in food service or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to follow oral, pictorial, and written instructions in English accurately.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Windows and departmental software.
  • Capability to prepare and present food attractively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to utilize the chain of command effectively.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts and positions as needed to meet departmental scheduling requirements.
