Key Responsibilities:

The Captain oversees the efficient and high-quality preparation of meals, ensuring compliance with all food safety standards for patients and visitors. This role entails managing the galley operations during shifts, with a focus on cultural, developmental, and environmental safety considerations relevant to the patient demographics served. The Captain will work closely with leadership to enhance the quality of food and nutrition services provided.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Timely and accurate assembly of meal trays according to dietary specifications.
  • Preparation of food items in accordance with established recipes and cooking guidelines.
  • Adherence to standard procedures for meal preparation and service.
  • Management of diet orders and menus, including necessary reporting from nutrition software.
  • Accurate inventory management and requisitioning of food supplies.
  • Compliance with proper food storage and supply management protocols.
  • Operation, sanitation, and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Execution of proper cleaning and dishwashing techniques.
  • Acceptance of assigned responsibilities in a collaborative manner.
  • Adherence to policies and adaptability to changes within the unit as required.
  • Supervision of Steward/ess staff.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of a certified program in food service or related training preferred.
  • One year of experience in food service or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to accurately follow oral, pictorial, and written instructions in English.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Windows and departmental software.
  • Capability to prepare and present food attractively.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving and utilizing the chain of command as necessary.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and roles as needed to meet departmental scheduling requirements.
