Job Title: Product Strategy Director

Basic American Foods is seeking a highly skilled Product Strategy Director to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and executing our product strategy across our core food categories.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Portfolio Strategy Development: Define and execute the product portfolio strategy to maximize market impact, revenue, and return on investment (ROI). Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to inform product decisions.
  2. Product Lifecycle Management: Oversee the management of the entire product lifecycle from ideation to exit. Work closely with channel sales teams, marketing, R&D, supply chain, and operations to ensure timely updates and enhancements to existing products. Evaluate performance across the various stages and develop appropriate actions to support, grow, or exit as needed.
  3. Category Management: Develop strategies to ensure category and product leadership in core channels to drive effective execution of product strategies. Collaborate with R&D, operations, supply chain, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer support teams to ensure alignment of product development with business goals and 3-Year Plan objectives.
  4. Market Analysis: Lead market assessment for product opportunities and risks, closely collaborating with marketing, sales, R&D, and outside resources to conduct thorough market research to identify opportunities for new products and enhancements to existing offerings. Develop business cases for new product initiatives based on quantitative and qualitative data.
  5. Performance Tracking: Establish key performance indicators to measure product success and portfolio performance. Monitor and report on product performance, making recommendations for improvements as necessary.
  6. Stakeholder Management: Engage with senior leadership to communicate product portfolio strategy, performance, and future opportunities. Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and suppliers.
  7. Team Development: This role is a key individual contributor that will provide significant leadership and influence across the enterprise, including the commercial team, R&D, and operations. Fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, this role will be a mentor to associates from various teams to enhance their understanding of product management skills and capabilities.

The expected pay range for this role is between $170,000-$185,000 annually, although a final salary offer is dependent on the candidate's experience level and skill set. In addition to a competitive base salary, this position offers an annual incentive.

Requirements:
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in product management or portfolio management, with a strong preference for experience with a food or consumer goods manufacturer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field with an appropriate business concentration from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and managing products throughout their lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to assimilate market trends, evaluate our current portfolio, and make actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Intermediate skills in Power BI, Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to travel at least once per quarter.
