Job Title: Family Coach

At Bonita House, Inc., we are seeking a compassionate and skilled Family Coach to join our team. As a Family Coach, you will provide support, education, and linkage to resources for families impacted by mental health symptoms.

Job Summary:

This is a regular, full-time position that requires a strong understanding of mental health disabilities, trauma, and recovery. You will work closely with families, providing individualized support, education, and referrals to services. Your goal will be to empower families to navigate the mental health system and provide a supportive environment for their loved ones.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide outreach, engagement, and rapport building to family members/caregivers of prospective IHOT participants.
  • Offer a range of supportive services, including education about mental health disabilities, referrals to services for trauma, connection to NAMI services, and other resources.
  • Conduct weekly family support groups to facilitate sharing, support, and normalization of feelings.
  • Offer support to families during crisis situations and help them navigate institutional settings and hospitals.
  • Serve as a liaison between the IHOT team and family members/caregivers.
  • Collect data and provide information for reports to funders and community partners.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and training opportunities.
  • Bill services to MAA and maintain case notes.
  • Share in on-call responsibilities on weekends.
Qualifications:
  • Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist with a Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in a mental health setting, or a Master's degree and two years of experience, or a post-Associate Arts degree and six years of experience, or a Master's degree and registration with the BBS as an MFT Intern, ASW, or PCC Intern.
  • Lived experience as a family member of someone with mental illness, homelessness, and/or co-occurring disorders.
  • Strong engagement skills, organizational abilities, and detail-oriented time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to build supportive and respectful working relationships with participants and their families.
  • Ability to effectively intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong community networking skills and ability to build resources and relationships that improve continuity of care.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings.
  • California Driver's License and own vehicle.
  • Ability to gain clearance to visit jails and correctional facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese) preferred.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires continual sitting, typing, and repetitive computer use for up to 8 hours a day. The position also requires frequent communication with others, including hearing and speaking clearly with individuals and groups, in person and via phone and video calls. Ability to lift 15 pounds at times. Regular local travel and operation of a motor vehicle is required.
