Job Overview

Position Summary

This is a foundational role designed to equip the employee for growth through hands-on training, mentorship, and the acquisition of necessary certifications for field operations. The employee will receive guidance from project leaders, senior engineers, and experienced technicians, while also collaborating with other team members. The primary objectives of this position include gaining familiarity with the services offered by American Engineering Testing Inc, building confidence in fieldwork and client engagement, enhancing report writing capabilities, and being introduced to various departments within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct thorough documentation of existing structures, construction materials, or building components, which includes condition assessments, material sampling/testing, structural evaluations, and vibration monitoring.
  2. Prepare reports and communicate findings with clients and project managers based on fieldwork and project specifications.
  3. Interpret ASTM procedures, translate them into actionable fieldwork, understand the underlying science, and provide engineering insights based on field results.
  4. Become proficient in using AET software and web tools, including but not limited to Dynamics, ADP, Spectra Quest, Microsoft 365, and Egnyte.
  5. Learn to extract concrete field cores and submit samples for petrographic and chemical analysis.
  6. Utilize non-destructive testing tools (such as GPR, GPS, MIRA, UPV, thermal cameras) to investigate materials and compile findings into meaningful reports for clients.
  7. Assist in the calibration of equipment, perform routine maintenance, recommend new or replacement equipment to the Division Manager, and help develop QA/QC procedures.
  8. Support project managers in drafting proposals and promoting AET services.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Conduct field, laboratory, and office tasks in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as AET's QA and Health and Safety Policies, to ensure the safety of employees, clients, and the public.
  2. Maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, as the position requires the use of a personal vehicle for company-related activities.
  3. Travel to project sites, which may involve overnight or multi-day stays.
  4. Perform outdoor duties in varying weather conditions, sometimes away from the main office or laboratory.
  5. Properly maintain company vehicles, instruments, workshops, and equipment.
  6. Stay updated on relevant regulations, policies, procedures, and technologies in the designated field(s).
  7. Engage with at least one professional organization.
  8. Progress towards professional engineering registration.
  9. Collaborate with project managers to ensure projects are completed within budget and meet client expectations.
  10. Work with other AET staff to enhance efficiency, productivity, and communication.
  11. Develop and nurture business relationships.
  12. Perform additional tasks as needed to achieve departmental or organizational objectives.
Qualifications and Educational Background
  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural, or Construction Engineering.
  2. 0-3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills
  1. Understanding of fundamental engineering or scientific principles within the specialty area and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively.
  2. Experience in data analysis and interpretation, accurately observing and documenting field activities, and reading plans and specifications.
  3. Mechanical aptitude for effective use of tools and equipment.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within project teams and independently in the field.
  5. Effective communication skills, including technical writing, to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  6. Physical capability to perform labor-intensive tasks, including the ability to occasionally lift 50 to 100 pounds.
  7. Willingness to learn new procedures, equipment, and software relevant to new service lines.
  8. Ability to manage time across multiple projects while adhering to scope, budget, and timelines.
