Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at the City of Grand Rapids. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy equipment with various gasoline and diesel engines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair trucks and equipment
  • Perform all necessary repairs to maintain the fleet
  • Order the correct parts to repair units
  • Document equipment or truck repairs and repaired times electronically
  • Provide preventative maintenance services of all heavy equipment
  • Look up and request parts as needed
  • Keep and maintain a clean work environment
  • Perform related work as required
Requirements
  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent) with training in automotive/heavy equipment/light equipment, gasoline or diesel engine repairs
  • At least two (2) years of experience performing automotive/heavy equipment/small engine mechanical repair and maintenance; and/or state certifications
  • Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License, Class A with an N Endorsement or the ability to obtain one within the six (6) month probationary period
Working Conditions

This position is 2nd Shift, working 10 hour days, four days a week. A schedule of Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday will be assigned.
