Position Overview:

The role of the School Guidance Counselor is pivotal in fostering a supportive educational environment. The counselor is responsible for:

  • Demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Facilitating constructive interactions between students and educational personnel.
  • Assessing educational programs and monitoring student development.
  • Engaging in effective communication with parents, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
  • Exhibiting strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Maintaining accurate records and submitting necessary reports.
  • Complying with school district regulations, administrative protocols, and applicable laws.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and upholding ethical standards in practice.
  • Implementing the guidance curriculum to support student growth.
  • Providing counseling to individuals and small groups to assist in educational and career planning.
  • Addressing personal issues faced by students through counseling sessions.
  • Keeping organized documentation of counseling activities for monitoring purposes.
  • Ensuring the confidentiality and privacy of student records.
  • Collaborating with educators and parents to address the developmental needs of students.
  • Referring students with significant challenges to appropriate community resources with parental consent.
  • Contributing to the overall effectiveness of the school through participation in various activities.
  • Reviewing and enhancing the guidance program as necessary.
  • Carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in School Counseling. A Master's Degree in School Counseling is preferred, along with prior teaching experience.
