Position Summary:
Accounting Manager
As an essential member of our Finance team, the Accounting Manager will assist the Assistant Corporate Controller by overseeing various accounting operations within our waste management framework. This role encompasses the management of profit and loss (P&L) functions, financial assessments, lease accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and audit facilitation. Furthermore, the Accounting Manager will be instrumental in the budgeting process and contribute to the financial strategy of the organization, presenting an opportunity to enhance financial performance and ensure precise and timely financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- P&L Oversight: Supervise the creation and evaluation of monthly profit and loss statements. Ensure reporting accuracy, analyze financial data to detect trends and discrepancies, and provide actionable insights to senior management.
- Financial Evaluation: Execute comprehensive financial analyses to aid strategic decision-making. Assess financial performance metrics, pinpoint areas for enhancement, and propose corrective measures to improve financial results.
- Lease Management: Administer accounting for operating and finance leases in accordance with relevant accounting standards. Oversee the documentation and tracking of lease-related transactions, including liabilities and right-of-use assets.
- Balance Sheet Management: Conduct regular balance sheet reconciliations to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Address and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Prepaid Expense Management: Oversee the accounting for prepaid expenses, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and amortization of costs.
- Fixed Asset Oversight: Manage the accounting for fixed assets, including tracking acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
- Audit Facilitation: Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and addressing auditor inquiries, while implementing recommendations for enhancing financial controls.
- Budgeting Assistance: Aid in the budgeting process by developing detailed budget forecasts and financial models, monitoring budget performance, and analyzing variances.
- Process Enhancement: Identify and implement improvements to increase the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations, promoting best practices.
- Team Leadership: Provide mentorship and support to the accounting team, managing workloads and conducting performance evaluations to foster high levels of team engagement.
Additional Responsibilities:

- Collaborate closely with management to align on objectives and deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA certification or progress towards CPA is preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial capacity. Experience in the waste management sector or a comparable field is highly desirable.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in general ledger systems; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar ERP systems is advantageous. Strong understanding of GAAP and industry-specific accounting requirements.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Leadership & Communication: Proven leadership skills with experience in team management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Independence & Influence: Ability to work autonomously, drive financial initiatives, and effectively influence cross-functional teams.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with various departments.
