Job Overview:

The Senior Engineer is responsible for creating robust electro-mechanical designs that ensure the functionality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of electrical systems in heavy-duty vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering analyses and design or redesign electrical systems and subsystems for both existing and new vehicle models.
  • Provide integration and execution support for the development of vehicle control and embedded systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations and investigations as assigned, adhering to client specifications and industry standards, including the creation of one-line schematics that illustrate mechanical, electrical, and thermal connections.
  • Possess a solid understanding of electro-mechanical power systems, components, and concepts, including generator sizing and component placement.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of high voltage systems and safety protocols associated with high voltage electrical systems.
  • Estimate and calculate available power and vehicle loads based on limited information.
  • Assist senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computational methods, and reporting.
  • Oversee a project or a segment of a project with limited complexity and may support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with other engineering and business support teams internally, as well as with external suppliers, as necessary.
  • Provide assistance to engineers, designers, or technicians on shared projects to ensure adequate space for wiring, thermal management, and mounting of components in vehicles, utilizing installation manuals and design experience.
  • Responsible for the design and integration of electrical components and circuitry into heavy-duty vehicles, with a focus on vehicle powertrain and related systems.
  • Offer technical support for prototype, pilot, or production builds, including troubleshooting manufacturing issues.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned, with regular attendance being a requirement.

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in electro-mechanical power systems, high voltage systems, and safety practices, with prior experience in vehicle design and integration.
  • Capability to design thermal management systems is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Familiarity with programming languages and control software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN)/SAE J1939 and/or vehicle networking is beneficial.
  • Experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair or design is desirable.
  • Experience in wire harness design is a plus.

Education:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
