POSITION SUMMARY:

This role involves the fundamental redesign and development of control and software systems for attractions and rides, aimed at enhancing reliability and operational efficiency. Responsibilities may include assisting with recovery during downtime as needed. Key tasks encompass troubleshooting, fault analysis, redesign tasks, and the integration of Ride and Show systems during testing and startup phases. All activities must adhere to ASTM F24 Committee guidelines and comply with relevant codes, regulations, and standards such as AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA, among others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and implements solutions, performing design and programming modifications to Ride & Show system equipment on assigned projects, including hardware and software adjustments to complex electrical and control systems to enhance safety, reliability, operational readiness, diagnostics, and serviceability.
  • Oversees assigned projects from conception through installation, managing project timelines, testing, training, and budget considerations.
  • Creates scope of work documents for engineering initiatives.
  • Designs and executes Acceptance Test Procedures for control system modifications, along with generating maintenance procedures and updating manuals.
  • Conducts maintenance training sessions on control equipment.
  • Collaborates with ride supervisors and managers to address design challenges and issues.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts among ride supervisors, managers, and technicians.
  • Engages with vendors and ride manufacturers to troubleshoot design challenges.
  • Drafts and reviews equipment specifications, conducting technical evaluations of vendor products and services.
  • Performs engineering calculations for the design, analysis, testing, and implementation of electrical and control systems.
  • Regularly updates senior engineers, Engineering Manager, and/or relevant ride managers on project status.
  • Maintains project status records in Maximo consistently.
  • Ensures proper configuration management of hardware and software documentation, adhering to Engineering guidelines for archiving and security.
  • Actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policies, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Undertakes additional duties as assigned.
SCOPE OF WORK:

Accountable for executing basic redesign and development tasks for all Ride & Show control and software systems to enhance reliability and operational performance.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, or Computer Engineering is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated project engineering experience with control and software systems in an engineering setting, particularly for dynamic motion systems in the theme park sector.
  • 3-5 years of field experience in technical fault analysis and isolation within the theme park industry.
  • 5-7 years of engineering experience in control systems and installation, utilizing PLCs, ladder logic, variable frequency drives, and servo controls in a theme park or similar environment.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience with PLC automated and control systems.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Skills:
  • Experience in designing safety-critical systems.
  • Proficiency with servo controls applied to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromotive motion control systems.
  • Strong analytical skills for performing engineering calculations related to design, analysis, testing, and implementation of electrical and motion control systems.
  • Familiarity with a high-level programming language (e.g., 'C' or Visual Basic).
  • Proven capability in managing control systems.
  • Experience in generating control system specifications and acceptance test procedures.
  • Knowledge of UL 508A, NEC, ASTM, and F24 standards.
  • Experience with the following products and networks:
    • PLC-5, SLC-500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix.
    • PanelBuilder 1400E, PanelBuilder32, RSView 32, RSLinx, RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and RSNetWorx.
    • Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software.
    • AC and DC motors and motor control systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the following products and networks:
    • Anitech and Gilderfluke show system controllers.
    • 1305 and 1336 variable frequency drives.
    • Data Highway Plus, Remote I/O, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet, DMX, and SMPTE.
