Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Associate Territory Manager is to provide field-level support to physicians and other clinical and administrative professionals in hospitals and surgery centers. This role involves working closely with Territory Managers to provide in-servicing support, product demonstrations, and case support on the safe and effective use of BD's Hernia repair products.



The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales revenue to exceed division targets, defining and developing new business opportunities that align with the company's goals, and contributing to overall team success. This role is designed to lead qualified and proven individuals to the position of Territory Manager.



The Associate Territory Manager will conduct business with integrity and in accordance with BD's Code of Ethics and all applicable policies, rules, and procedures.



Essential Functions of the Position

  1. Coordinates with field sales, logistics, timing, duration, strategy, and execution of field-level customer training and technical support of clinical cases.
  2. Works with sales management in prioritizing targeted customers, cases, and training events.
  3. Supports the development of regional physician proctors to help with formal and informal training activities.
  4. Conducts training and in-servicing for hospital surgery staff and support personnel.
  5. Supports the development of regional centers of excellence and works with Marketing on the execution of territory physician training seminars.
  6. Provides support for regional marketing events, conventions, and symposia.
  7. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.


Specific Responsibilities

  1. Maintains equipment, advertising, and promotional matter in a presentable and orderly manner.
  2. Completes all paperwork on time and thoroughly.
  3. Keeps accurate up-to-date account records.
  4. Utilizes funnel to set goals and target accounts.
  5. Accurate use of productive selling time.
  6. Acquires extensive knowledge of prices, discounts, availability of each product according to quality and quantity.
  7. Maintains adequate supply of promotional tools (samples, brochures, videos).
  8. Must have all basic product knowledge and acquire knowledge of all new products added to the line.
  9. Must be able to apply this knowledge to adequately conduct in-service education to all hospitals.
  10. Stays within expense budget.
  11. Knows and optimally uses selling presentations as well as standard answers to objections.
  12. Recognizes need for continual training.
  13. Maintains judicious relations with District Manager, Territory Managers, and customers.
  14. Plans sales calls on a continuous basis, prioritizes time for effective coverage of territory, elimination of needless driving.
  15. Develops detailed knowledge of company policies, ability to interpret them to customers and prospects.
  16. Maintains the company car in a clean, orderly, and serviceable condition.


Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required

  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. 1-3 years general sales experience.
  3. Experience working in a team environment, particularly with sales people.
  4. Strong interpersonal, oral, communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  5. Good judgment and maturity.
  6. Willing to relocate to fill an open Full Line Territory Manager position.
  7. Ability to travel 80%, including overnight travel.
  8. Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued license driver's license with 3 years of consecutive driving history and meet BD's auto safety standards.
  9. Must be able to meet and maintain customer/medical facility access requirements, including regular or periodic drug screenings with a satisfactory result in accordance with the requirements of the customer/medical facility serviced.


Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge

  1. Understands the needs/analysis approach to sales.
  2. Understands the product buyer concept.
  3. Understands contract administration.
  4. Understands principles of group purchasing to include research, formulating, and recommend proposal.
  5. Basic anatomy - Ability to discuss the various products in relation to the human body.
  6. Familiarity with medical and surgical terminology.
