Ophthalmic Scribe Assistant

The Ophthalmic Scribe plays a vital role in supporting our clinical teams by assisting with the documentation of patient medical records during out-patient visits and procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Accompanying physicians into examination areas and assisting with documentation
  • Logging onto EPIC under own credentials and documenting results of physician findings
  • Designating correct colored dots for patient workflow and ensuring correct sequence of examinations
  • Printing After Visit Summaries, Medication RX, and Eyeglass RX
  • Performing Universal Protocol on all patients receiving procedures
  • Training other scribes as assigned by manager
  • Assisting with managing patient flow and calling patients into the room when ready for physician
  • Acting as facilitator to patients as they arrive and ensuring correct sequence of examinations
  • Acting as escort to patients when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel to different department locations
  • Assisting manager with clerical duties and performing errands between departments
  • Assisting manager with room and medication inspections
  • Readily receiving patients at the beginning of each schedule and maintaining tidy exam rooms throughout the day
  • Ensuring medications are secured at all times and informing manager of instrument and equipment problems
  • Responding to patient inquiries and problems and performing duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
