Job Overview

The Cost Estimator for Building Projects plays a crucial role in calculating material and labor expenses for our steel enclosure manufacturing initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects and evaluates proposals, architectural plans, specifications, and other relevant construction documents to define the project scope.
  • Engages with clients during the bidding process to clarify requirements and gather information necessary for accurate estimates.
  • Determines labor, material, and time necessities for each project.
  • Develops and submits detailed cost estimates for evaluation.
  • Participates in weekly bidding meetings to report on the status of ongoing estimates and updates for each project.
  • Maintains precise and current pricing data from suppliers, vendors, and the purchasing department, updating estimate records as needed.
  • Handles multiple estimates concurrently.
  • Collaborates with engineering, business development, and project management teams to grasp the technical aspects of the projects.
  • Performs additional related tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret technical electrical and mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Familiarity with contractual terminology is advantageous.

Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant coursework in a related discipline.
  • 0-3 years of experience in estimation or a comparable role.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to navigate the production area as necessary.
  • Full-time office work is required.
