Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Specimen Management Technician to join our team at The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for receiving and processing requests and specimens for analysis, ensuring accurate and timely results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process requests and specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Enter requests into the laboratory computer system and ensure all specimens meet acceptance criteria
  • Operate the Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) and investigate documents to resolve problems or complaints
  • Process laboratory specimens and serve as a trainer and role model for new technicians and healthcare professional students
  • Demonstrate knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs and perform area-specific support activities
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • No experience required
  • Licensure: None required
Physical Demands

The job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
