Laboratory Specimen Coordinator

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Specimen Management Technician to join our team at the University of Virginia Health System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enter written and receive electronic orders for Laboratory requests into Laboratory Computer System
- Ensure all specimens received meet specimen acceptance criteria
- Operate Pneumatic Tube System (PTS)
- Investigate documents and resolve problems or complaints
- Process Laboratory specimens
- Train and mentor new Specimen Management Technicians and health care professional students
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs
- Perform area-specific support activities
Requirements:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- No experience required
- Licensure: None required
Working Conditions:
- Sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)
- Repetitive motion: computer data entry
- Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills
- Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs
- May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease
