Job Description

Job Title: Custodian (Night - Part-Time)

Job Summary: We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to maintain assigned rooms, buildings, or groups of buildings, offices, and service facilities in a clean, orderly, and secure manner during an assigned shift. The successful candidate will perform outdoor and general grounds care duties when assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean classrooms, showers, locker rooms, restrooms, shops, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices, hallways, and walkways, as well as related facilities.
  • Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, seal, wax, and polish floors.
  • Vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets.
  • Clean chalkboards, desks, chairs, easels, chalk trays, and other classroom instructional equipment.
  • Dust, polish, and wash windows, walls, tables, furniture, benches, and woodwork.
  • Clean restrooms, including doors, mirrors, sinks, walls, floors, toilets, and hardware; fill dispensers and receptacles as needed.
  • Arrange, set up, and remove furniture and equipment in preparing classrooms, auditoriums, or other activity areas for special events, activities, or meetings.
  • Make minor non-technical repairs necessary to keep assigned areas and equipment operative, safe, and clean; paint student lockers and walls as required; assemble gym equipment, tables, and chairs.
  • Empty and clean trash and garbage cans and replace liners.
  • Sweep walkways, concrete, and blacktop surfaces, pick up paper and other debris on grounds and walks, and dispose of refuse.
  • Raise and lower flags; lock and unlock doors and gates, secure areas, and set or turn off security alarms.
  • Clean and adjust shades, blinds, desks, chairs, and other furniture.
  • Assist in emergency repairs and requests for assistance from the District Maintenance and Operations Department on a short-term, temporary basis.
  • Participate in thorough cleaning of schools and facilities during vacation periods.
  • Check and report unsafe conditions of playground equipment and grounds.
  • Receive and distribute supplies as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must have fingerprint clearance prior to employment.
  • Attention to detail with thoroughness to effectively complete each task.
  • Understanding of the use and storage of common chemicals used at a school.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to organize time.
  • Initiative to work on own with minimum supervision.
