Job Description / Essential Elements

Custodian - Night Lead Job Summary

The Custodian - Night Lead is a key member of the custodial team, responsible for leading and participating in custodial and routine maintenance functions. This role requires a high level of organization, leadership, and communication skills to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the district's facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and leading custodial and routine maintenance functional activities in accordance with a predetermined work schedule.
  • Inspect and review the work of a custodial work crew, providing assistance and direction as necessary.
  • Prepare supply, material, and equipment requests to maintain an adequate operational inventory.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance functions, including equipment adjustments, lubrication, and simple part replacement.
  • Assist in planning and conducting orientation and in-service training programs.
  • Assist in maintaining custodial operational records and custodial personnel time reports.
  • Perform general custodial functions, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, washing walls, and other general cleaning tasks.
  • Provide technical input into the performance appraisal of custodial personnel.
  • May occasionally perform grounds maintenance functions using a lawn mower, weed whip, and blower.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
  • A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:
    • Experience: Two years of experience in custodial and maintenance work, preferably in a school setting.
    • Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

The Custodian - Night Lead position requires the ability to:

  • Stand for long periods of time (65% of the time)
  • Walk for long periods of time (30% of the time)
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds (frequently)
  • Perform medium to moderately heavy manual functions

The position also requires working in a variety of environments, including:

  • Inside (50% of the time)
  • Outside (50% of the time)

The Custodian - Night Lead may be exposed to:

  • Fumes (frequently)
  • Mists (seldom)
  • Odors (frequently)
  • Dusts (frequently)

The position requires the use of protective clothing and devices, including:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Dust mask
