Life Skills Instructor

Job Summary:
The Life Skills Instructor is a vital member of our team at Alternative Services - Connecticut, Inc. This role is responsible for providing supportive and guiding services to individuals with developmental disabilities, enabling them to master independent living skills. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a strong ability to work with diverse populations, and a commitment to promoting a safe and healthy environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and adhere to all Agency policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and welfare of individuals.
- Provide counseling and reinforcement to assigned individuals to address issues of progress, problems, interests, and goals.
- Assist in supervising and safely transporting individuals to community activities, day programs, social events, and other destinations.
- Assist with daily living tasks, such as shopping, meal preparation, and household management.
- Document all activities, incidents, and progress in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collaborate with guardians, parents, and other stakeholders to understand and implement normalization and person-centered planning principles.
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship with individuals, families, and community partners.
- Participate in in-service training, seminars, and other professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Individualized Supports Manager or upper management team.
Requirements:
- Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis.
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by our insurance company throughout employment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene with individuals as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
Accountability:
The Life Skills Instructor is directly accountable to the Individualized Supports Manager or designated supervisor.
