Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Leidos Holding. As a key member of our Maritime Systems Division, you will be responsible for leading the design and analysis of mechanical systems related to Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems, including vehicle elements, mission payloads, and launch & recovery systems.
  • Work closely with junior mechanical engineers to provide mentorship and leadership.
  • Create 3D models of mechanical systems using Solidworks software.
  • Perform structural, vibration, shock, thermal, and hydrodynamic analysis of conceptual and detailed designs.
  • Present mechanical designs and justify engineering decisions during engineering reviews.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across other engineering disciplines to ensure complex systems meet customer requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing and test & evaluation teams to build prototype systems and conduct testing.
Requirements
  • B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field and years of prior relevant experience.
  • Able to obtain Secret clearance or higher.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work.
  • Strong, effective, and professional communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Maritime systems and/or ocean engineering experience.
  • Prior experience with unmanned underwater vehicles, operating and control systems, and associated electronics/sensors.
  • Experience working with manual machine tools and fabrication equipment.
  • Familiarity working as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) on DOD programs of record.
