Join Our Team as a Certified Histology Specialist
The Certified Histology Specialist plays a crucial role in the histopathology department, executing essential procedures for the preparation of slides intended for microscopic analysis by pathologists. This position involves meticulous handling of patient tissue specimens, ensuring adherence to established protocols and policies. The specialist will utilize the Laboratory Information System to manage and prepare specimens for detailed examination and analysis.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Histology Operations:
Oversee daily workflow in the surgical pathology unit, coordinating routine and specialized procedures in alignment with the surgery schedule. - Slide Preparation:
Prepare both routine and specialized slides for pathologist evaluation, ensuring accuracy and quality. - Specimen Processing:
Sort and prioritize incoming specimens based on urgency and complexity, embedding and fixing tissues appropriately. - Instrumentation Management:
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment for tissue processing, ensuring optimal performance and cleanliness. - Quality Assurance:
Document and maintain quality control records for all specimens and instruments. - Collaboration:
Assist pathologists during gross examinations and frozen section procedures, contributing to accurate diagnoses.
Autopsy Assistance and Morgue Duties:
- Facilitate the collection and processing of autopsy specimens, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Prepare necessary equipment and supplies for specimen collection, assisting in dissection and measurements.
- Perform post-procedure tasks, including body and organ preparation, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Inventory and Compliance:
- Participate in maintaining adequate supplies and reagents, staying informed on relevant standards and regulations.
- Adhere to safety and infection control policies, reporting any incidents to supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Registered Histotechnologist (ASCP) certification required.
- Proficient in a wide range of histology laboratory techniques and quality control interpretation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and laboratory testing theory.
Work Environment:
