Position Overview:

As a vital member of our team, the Firefighter/EMT operates under general supervision to engage in fire prevention, suppression, hazardous material response, and emergency medical assistance to safeguard lives and property. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities essential to our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Engagement:
  • Conduct inspections for fire safety, home safety, and pre-fire planning.
  • Provide public education through information dissemination, smoke detector installations, and community outreach activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, healthcare professionals, and representatives from various agencies.
Fire Suppression Duties:
  • Respond to emergency fire alarms and engage in firefighting operations.
  • Assist in controlling various types of fires, including structural, industrial, and wildland fires, utilizing appropriate extinguishing methods.
  • Operate fire apparatus and equipment, performing search and rescue, ventilation, and salvage operations.
  • Document firefighting and rescue actions in detailed reports.
Emergency Medical Services:
  • Evaluate emergency medical situations and respond accordingly.
  • Administer emergency and non-emergency medical care on-site and during transport.
  • Ensure patient transfers to medical facilities are conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient care in compliance with established protocols.
Communication:
  • Utilize portable radios for effective communication during operations.
  • Maintain professionalism in all radio communications.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Perform routine inspections of vehicles and equipment as assigned.
  • Report any discrepancies to the supervising officer.
Training and Compliance:
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions, including live drills and skills maintenance.
  • Adhere to compliance standards and complete all required training within designated timeframes.
Qualifications:
  • Certification as an EMT and compliance with local training standards.
  • Current CPR/AED certification and a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, as needed.
Education:
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
