Position Summary:
The Emergency Response Technician operates under general supervision to execute fire prevention, suppression, hazardous material incident response, and emergency medical assistance duties aimed at safeguarding life and property; performs related tasks as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Engagement:
Conduct fire safety, residential safety, fire extinguisher, and pre-incident planning assessments.
Provide information to the community, install smoke detectors, conduct station tours, visit educational institutions, and engage in public safety education initiatives.
Work entails serving the community and necessitates cooperative interaction with colleagues, supervisors, medical professionals, and representatives from various agencies.
Fire Suppression:
Execute fire suppression tasks by responding to emergency fire alerts.
Assist in controlling structural, residential, commercial, industrial, chemical, petroleum, vehicular, aircraft, and wildland fires; applying the appropriate extinguishing agents to the fire source.
Operate various firefighting equipment and apparatus; conduct search and rescue operations; perform ventilation and salvage tasks.
Document firefighting and rescue actions in written reports.Emergency Medical Services:
Respond to emergency medical situations by assessing conditions.
Provide emergency and non-emergency medical care both on-site and in transit.
Transport patients to medical facilities.
Administer treatment in accordance with established Emergency Medical Service Protocols and organizational policies.
Document patient care in written reports.
Communication:
Utilize portable radios for communication.
All radio communications must be conducted in a professional and respectful manner.
Maintenance:
Conduct daily and weekly inspections of vehicles and equipment as assigned.
Ensure all discrepancies are documented and reported to the on-duty supervisor.
Training:
Participate in all mandatory training sessions, including live fire drills, performance evaluations, ongoing skills maintenance, annual OSHA drills, and any other required training.
Compliance:Review documentation for accuracy and adherence to processes.
Implement corrective and preventive measures as determined by compliance audits.
Cooperate with compliance and HR on recommendations and changes to workflows.
Adhere to all policies and procedures.
Successfully complete all required compliance training within designated timeframes.
Maintain a clean compliance record during the review period.
Qualifications:
IL certified BOF
If assigned to an airport operation - State, IFSAC, ProBoard, or FAA Airport Firefighter certification.
State issued Registered EMT-B
Current CPR/AED certification.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as per organizational policy. DUI within the last 5 years is disqualifying.
Able to work any assigned shift, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Available for overtime as assigned and as needed in emergencies.
Must meet local standards regarding qualifications, training, and eligibility for hiring or promotion.
Educational Requirements:
High School diploma or GED required.
