OVERVIEW

The Manager of Process Refinement is responsible for overseeing the effective and cost-efficient transformation of raw sugar into high-quality finished products, including white sugar, soft confectioners, and liquid sugars, adhering to stringent quality benchmarks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises the entire refining operation from the intake of dry raw sugar through various stages including melting, clarification, decolorization, filtration, crystallization, and drying, ensuring the production of finished goods in liquid form.
  • Directly manages all process-related activities and oversees onsite process supervisors and hourly staff.
  • Ensures compliance with quality standards throughout the refining process, making necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Establishes shift priorities and objectives to meet production goals.
  • Monitors and controls the consumption of energy resources, including fuel, steam, water, and electricity, aiming to reduce overall refining expenses.
  • Accountable for the integrity of the house control lock system and the prevention of sugar loss.
  • Develops and evaluates the performance of supervisory and operational personnel to maximize labor efficiency.
  • Addresses employee relations issues within the framework of established guidelines and contractual agreements.
  • Coordinates operations during swing and night shifts, collaborating with the Shift Superintendent.
  • Analyzes process operations and suggests enhancements for improved efficiency.
  • Responsible for the training and safety of team members, maintaining high standards of housekeeping, sanitation, and equipment upkeep.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to personal and team safety.
  • Must be able to perform duties while wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Works effectively within a team in a unionized setting.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 5 years in industrial maintenance or a related service field.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to mentor and train staff in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and make informed decisions.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Experience in industrial food processing is preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A 4-year degree or 5 years of supervisory experience in a similar refining operation is required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Problem Solving: Capable of addressing short-term process issues while ensuring adherence to quality standards and production schedules.
  • Accountability: Effectively utilizes personnel, energy, materials, and equipment to achieve operational goals and maintain quality in refining raw sugar into finished products.
