Job Duties:
The Nutritionist Associate is responsible for independently assessing the nutritional eligibility of clients in accordance with established program guidelines. This role involves prescribing suitable food packages tailored to individual needs.

The position requires conducting comprehensive nutritional assessments utilizing the VENA technique, which includes evaluating food frequency history, growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values, and medical history. Based on these assessments, dietary goals are established, and personalized counseling is provided to clients.

Referrals for high-risk counseling with a Nutritionist are made when necessary. This position is funded solely by WIC, and employment is contingent upon the ongoing availability of grant or non-general funds.

Immunization Requirements:
All Health-Care Personnel (HCP) must provide proof of immunization or evidence of immunity for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and a one-time dose of Tdap vaccine. Seasonal influenza vaccination is also required annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fundamental knowledge of nutrition and dietary standards.
  • Ability to conduct interviews and gather relevant information.
  • Proficient in interpreting, documenting, and compiling routine data.
  • Experience in providing patient education and effectively communicating with individuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with diverse patients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience in multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
  • Proficient in using computer systems.

Additional Considerations:

  • Preferred training or experience in Nutrition, Dietetics, food services, or related fields.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is advantageous.
  • Experience in obtaining blood samples, finger sticks, and measuring heights and weights is preferred.
