Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Radiation Oncology Billing and Referral Specialist to provide essential billing and compliance assistance within the Division of Radiation Oncology. This role encompasses various responsibilities, including charge capture, referral management, denial resolution, data collection, and project oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Referral Management: Ensure efficient handling of all referrals for Radiation Therapy Services, delivering exceptional customer service to both referring physicians and patients.
  • Medical Necessity Verification: Assess and confirm the medical necessity for radiation treatments based on patient diagnoses and insurance coverage.
  • Documentation and Data Entry: Accurately complete referral forms and input necessary information into the electronic health record system.
  • Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with physicians, billing teams, and preauthorization staff to guarantee precise pre-certification and authorization details.
  • Patient Advocacy: Assist patients in navigating the healthcare system and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Compliance Oversight: Conduct quality assurance on billing practices to ensure adherence to coding standards and insurance requirements.
  • Charge Capture: Verify that all technical and professional charges are accurately recorded and appropriately modified.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with financial coordinators and other team members to coordinate patient assistance and resolve any billing discrepancies.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma and have at least two years of relevant experience. A relevant coding certification, such as the Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC), is strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

This position primarily involves sedentary work with extensive use of desktop computers, along with occasional travel for meetings and programs.
